A little over 10 years ago, Katie experienced some financial setbacks. As a result, she was contacted by collection agencies and sued by "debt buyers" for credit card debts. At the time, she did not know that one could be sued for credit card debts. Nor did she know that credit card banks could sell defaulted accounts to "debt buyers".
Since then, Katie has been researching consumer protection laws. Her main focus has been on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Katie's research includes state and federal court rulings along with information and rulings provided by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
