Tammy (author) from North Carolina on October 08, 2012:

Wow John! I guess Cancun is a tourist trap. I think the best bargain of all for $1 are the sunglasses. I am rough on things and if I break them, a dollar isn't a hard replacement. Lets hope our dollar deals stick around in this economy. Thanks so much for stopping by!

John Sarkis from Winter Haven, FL on October 08, 2012:

Hi Tammy, and what an awesome read this is. I'm so glad we live in a country where a dollar can still get you a couple of thing. A co-worker of mine just came back from Cancun and was telling me how expensive everything is there and a dollar gets you absolutely nothing.

Great read - voted up!

Take good care

John

What a fun hub! Even in this economy I can't feel guilty about spending a dollar. When my kids were really little we used to go to our dollar store all the time and they would be so excited to get something. Now I'm the one excited to get something for a dollar. Voted up and shared!!

Eddy.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on September 20, 2012:

That is awesome Peggy! I wish I could get fresh fruit and vegetables at a store like that. I just got a bag of grapes and they ended up being $12.00. Prices are just too high! That may be a great hub idea since you live in such a large city. I would enjoy that store. Thanks so much for reading and for sharing that!

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on September 19, 2012:

We have a 99 cent store not too far from where we live. I go straight to the back of the store where they sell fresh ingredients...veggies and such. Often I can buy 2 or 3 large red peppers for that price and often only 1 in the regular grocery stores is over a dollar. That is just one example. It truly pays to look for fruits and vegetables there BEFORE going to the regular stores. Quite the savings! Interesting hub!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on September 18, 2012:

Thanks for reading MarieAlice! :)

Maria Alicia Cardenas from Spain on September 17, 2012:

Tammy - McDonalds has a senior rate for coffee. I think its like .40 or .50 a cup and is delicious. My son sticks me in the car and orders himself a coffee at senior rate :)

Great hub and list!

DMVmimay on September 04, 2012:

Mr Nice from North America on August 10, 2012:

Hi tammyswallow,

Interesting selection of dollar stuff, actually there are hundreds of more dollar items for everyone in the family.

Anybody realized that all this dollar stuff is made in China? It is not just the dollar stuff you see on dollar stores.

Everything on ebay clothes, electronics, computer accessories, Chinese cellphones, mp4 players and iphone, ipad, ipod copies are very cheap compared to the brand names. I used some Chinese Gagdets and they all work very well.

Because of made in China everyone can afford lots of stuff now.

Thanks for sharing your selection of dollar items.

Yikes Sharkey11! You gotta love a good bargain- especially in this economy. Thanks so much for commenting!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on August 09, 2012:

Thanks so much for reading and commenting Amberjewll. There is some "junky" stuff you get for a dollar, but these items weren't created at low dollar quality. Most of the items were like you said, overstocks. The batteries aren't the best, but many of the items do well.

Jayme Kinsey from Oklahoma on August 09, 2012:

Great list! I love dollar tree. Too bad I have to go fifty miles to shop at one. I think they should be in every town. I would just like to say that the $1 pregnancy tests from Dollar Tree detected what THREE expensive EPT tests did not! I definitely could have saved some money there!

Amberjewell on August 09, 2012:

I'm a big fan of Dollar Tree. :) Things there vary because it's basically an overstock store and they never know what they get in. I have personally never seen a zen garden, but I have used many of their pregnancy tests and they work just as well as the $15 ones!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on August 08, 2012:

I was laughing through the majority of this list because I've bought many of these items over the years including the "Whoopee Cushion!" My four year old grandson thinks bouncing up and down on one in the middle of the Dollar Store isle is better than chocolate ice cream:) Great List! Voted Up and Funny.
