Finding Affordable Books for School Is a Pain

As any college student or parent will tell you, buying textbooks for school is a huge pain. However, saving money and shopping around shouldn't be much of a problem if you know where to go. Finding all the books you need at a large discount compared to your college bookstore makes sense to low-income students who don't have the resources to afford both tuition fees and expensive textbooks.

With so many options nowadays, it's hard to decide what to get and how to get it all for the right price The main reason why there isn't a really nice system for finding the cheapest books is because every teacher uses different books, and it's impossible to tailor the search to thousands of different titles.

These books are supposed to be affordable. Book sites are advertising CHEAP & AFFORDABLE but not true. Im trying to buy Effective Teaching Methods 8th edition, this book is being sold over 100 dollars & the highest price over 4000. These prices are not cheap or affordable its false advertising. These book companies aren't making it easy for college students to purchase.

Great list! You left off www.rentscouter.com, one of the oldest price comparison websites. Excellent post.

Michele from Blue Ridge Mountains on September 12, 2015:

Another cools site is http://www.freetextbooklist.com it lists books that can be read online (some off) for free. They don't even require registration. Most are written by professors and SME's; not textbook companies.

Str8up Hookups on January 15, 2011:

My books were much cheaper on Amazon.com that campus bookstore.

I really lucked out they didn't have a book in stock said if I didn't want to wait go to Amazon.com and gave me ISBN numbers for all my books.

What a hookup!!

Pays to do alittle investigation.

Great hub!

Looking forward to using your list next semester.

Wow! I thought it was pretty much half.com or Amazon! Had no idea you could rent them, either. Thanks for the info.

Mike Dale from Far northern California on January 12, 2011:

That's a heck of a list! 12web is right, online is the way to go. I've been using Amazon lately, and got some great deals. I don't think I have the patience to sift through too many sites to find the best of the best deal, though I probably should lol.

t2webnetwork from Oxford, MI on September 15, 2010:

Fantastic list. Always found I got the best bang for my buck when buying online. NEVER purchase in the book store. (I think we all know this by now)

topdentistfinder on September 07, 2010:
