4 Reasons Why I Love Costco

Sarah grew up shopping at Costco with her family and has done a lot of her grocery shopping at Costco.

1. Costco Has Everything You Need

Costco is a big, warehouse-like store. Costco sells pretty much everything you would need, like groceries, electronics, clothing, jewelry, books, and much more. If you've never been to Costco, you would feel lost inside because there are just so many aisles and so many things to see.

Most people wouldn't think a grocery store would be a good place to spend time, but Costco isn't just a grocery store. Therefore, it's a great place to go if you need somewhere to spend an hour or two. To look through all the aisles in Costco in detail would probably take more than an hour.

There are also a lot of books to read so you can spend time reading books too. Costco is a great place to go for killing time, especially when it's raining outside and you don't know where else to go.

As a kid, I remember going with my parents to Costco at least once a week and being amazed by how large the store was. Usually, we always had a list of what we needed to buy, so we just went to the appropriate aisles and picked up what we needed, and then left. However, I always thought it would be fun to just take my time in Costco and see all the aisles just to see everything they have to offer.

Costco also has its own gas pumps and a place to fix your car. Not every Costco has a place to fix your car, but most do. Unfortunately, fixing your car can take a long time, so thankfully, Costco has a lot to see while you wait for your car to be fixed.

2. There's Free Food in the Form of Samples

As a kid, I often went to Costco with my parents when I was looking for a snack. Most of the time, we went to Costco to fill up the car with gas or to buy some groceries. However, sometimes we went inside just to get a few snacks to eat.

I know what you're thinking: "Isn't that the same as just buying groceries?" Actually, it's not because, in the food aisles of Costco, there are employees offering samples of food that they sell there. They are giving free samples of food to help promote their products and convince you to buy the full product.

I remember as a kid often getting many different samples and eating them while walking around the store. There were usually many different samples being offered, not just one or two, so it was great to just get free food whenever I went there.

3. You Can Save Money at Costco

To shop at Costco, you need to be a Costco member. The membership costs $60 a year for the normal membership and $120 a year to be an executive member. The differences between the executive membership and normal membership are that the executive members get discounts on services like getting their car fixed, a 2% annual reward, and a Costco magazine.

There are not many differences that are very significant, so it's fine to just get the normal membership. Both offer access to every Costco around the United States and to their online website. Going into the store is very simple; all you have to do is flash your membership card at the door, and they will let you in. Unfortunately, you can't get into Costco without being a member, though.

Costco usually has cheaper gas prices than the rest of the gas stations in the area. Therefore, if you are a Costco member, you can take advantage of this and save a lot of money on gas.

As a kid, I remember my dad would always look for a Costco whenever he needed gas because it was the cheapest place he could get gas. Most Costcos have a gas station, but a few of them don't, so you should always check on this before your car hits empty.

Also, Costco sells everything in bulk. It's true that for one person or a couple, most of the products in bulk are too large and aren't worth buying. However, you should buy products in bulk that aren't perishable because you'll be saving money in the long term. For example, toilet paper, oil, bottled water, paper towels, and batteries are a few items that don't perish quickly, and you'll be able to store them for a long time.

The products at Costco are more expensive than the products at Walmart that aren't in bulk, but if you're going to the store frequently to buy the same products, it becomes a lot cheaper to just buy them in bulk from Costco.

For example, I used to buy toilet paper once a month from Walmart because it was cheaper than at Costco. However, there weren't as many rolls inside the package, so I had to keep buying pretty frequently. Then my parents just got me toilet paper in bulk from Costco, and it's enough toilet paper to last my husband and me probably for the rest of the year.

I spent a lot of money at one time, and since I don't need to buy anymore for a long time, I'm actually saving more money. Therefore, some things are much more worth the money to buy in bulk, and the quality of the products at Costco is pretty high, too.

4. There's Cheap Food at the Food Court

Costco also has a place either inside the store or right outside the store to buy food if you're hungry or thirsty. Costco sells pizza by the slice, whole pizzas, soda, salad, churros, hot dogs, smoothies, lattes, sandwiches, and ice cream.

One slice of pizza is only $1.99, and a whole pizza is only $9.95. A hot dog is only $1.50, the sandwiches are less than $5, a 20 oz cup of soda is also only $0.59, smoothies and lattes are only $1.45, and ice cream is less than $2.

Even though some of the food at Costco doesn't taste as great as going to a normal fast food restaurant, the food is super cheap, and you won't find these prices anywhere else. There is a lot of variety of food that you can buy from Costco's food court area and it's a great option for a quick and cheap lunch with your family.
