Wish App and Wish.com Shopping Review
What Is Wish?
Wish is a shopping app based out of San Francisco that offers very low prices on clothing, makeup, and accessories, mostly from warehouses in China. It connects consumers to a marketplace of vendors, in a way that's similar to eBay. The difference is that all of the products on Wish come directly from China. The "stores" on Wish have no middlemen, retail outlets, or advertisements to pay for, so the prices are really low. On the other hand, the products aren't high-quality and can take weeks to ship. You get what you pay for!
Right now, Wish is a leading app for e-commerce and is leading the way for how we buy clothing and other merchandise on our smartphones. The photo-driven shopping style and very low prices make it ideal for consumers who are willing to take a chance on products that may or may not be very good.

My Review of Product Quality on Wish
For the most part, the products on Wish are worth the money. But be careful when someone says a $3 shirt is "high quality." Sometimes the material listed in the product description can give you an idea of what you will receive. The best research you can do is to read the customer reviews and decide if getting the worst outcome described there is worth the product price.
Wish is a shopping venue best used for trying out cheap novelties and ordering more colors when they work out. The products available on Wish tend to come without a label or brand and generally follow fast-fashion trends closely. You are not going to find your next favorite pair of jeans in that exact fit that will last you the next five years like you would expect from a quality brick and mortar store. But there is plenty of selection when you search "bralette" or "jumper." And the "bodycon" phase is still going strong with Wish. They do have staples like tank tops and button-downs, but the quality is hit-or-miss.
Free Gifts for New Users
When you first download the app and sign in, Wish lets you pick an item for free. These normally range from $1-$5 but you get it for free plus the cost of shipping. There are no gimmicks here. You actually will receive the item you purchased from China. But as with any item on Wish, the cost to ship the item is probably more than the price of the product. On Wish, you get what you pay for!
What About You?
Have you had good luck buying on Wish?
Review of Electronics on Wish
Slow shipping and iffy product quality don't mean that all items from Wish are a bad deal. It's the largest marketplace for Asian goods and you have access to it from your smartphone. There are plenty of items that are worth buying if you do the research.
Phone cases and other cell phone accessories like cords and screen protectors are a surprisingly solid bet from Wish. If you find a product with pictures that show the case or accessory with your phone model, you can be pretty sure the item will fit correctly.
Shower Speakers with Bluetooth
People are always on the hunt for great deals that other shoppers haven't discovered yet. These do occasionally pop up on Wish, but unfortunately, it's impossible to know you are looking at a solid deal until you buy and receive it.
Do some extensive research before purchasing! Look up the Bluetooth-capable speakers on Wish that are waterproof. They offer quite a few, and most have great reviews. Bluetooth is a well-established technology and the sound quality from their speakers is actually pretty high. They will range from $5 to $15 and compare really well to their $50-$75 retail counterparts.
My Review of Women's Clothing on Wish
Clothing on Wish can certainly be hit-or-miss. You might get a few items that are poor quality or don't fit, but chances are you'll also find a few "finds" that are really affordable and become wardrobe favorites. Read these reviews on specific products before you buy.
There are some super cute boat shoes that are popular on Wish right now. Shoe sizing on Wish is actually pretty reliable. The results are not going to be too far off what you see in other stores but beware of shoes with stitching and seams because those are the first to rip. Other than that, you get what you see in the picture.
Tops and Blouses
Wish probably has more tops and blouses than any other type of product. These can be super tempting in the pictures, but they are actually among the higher-risk items you can buy. This is because the sizing is much more difficult with a blouse than a skirt or a dress. If you're willing to risk it, then read reviews and make sure you see customer photos that verify the garment isn't too sheer (a common problem with Wish clothing). Consider sizing up a lot and being okay with an over-sized fit. Better too loose than too tight!
If you like to have a new suit every summer, then Wish might work for you. You'll find plenty of variety here, but don't expect the suits to last through more than one summer's worth of water and sun. Fit can be difficult here, so proceed with caution!
There's a huge selection of leggings on Wish and a wide variety of quality. I ordered a pair last winter in a fun, bright pattern and loved them. They were $5 plus shipping. For that price, I could have bought a pair at Walmart or Target.
Stretchy Fast-Fashion Clothing
Fast-fashion items like stretchy skirts, dresses, T-shirts, and tanks can be excellent purchases from Wish. Novelty T-shirts with cool graphics or funny sayings are hard to go wrong with. It is important that the item is stretchy because the sizes can vary so much. The stretch in the material will give you a little "wiggle room" if you get the wrong size. Beware of items with exposed stitching or zippers because poor quality in those areas can ruin a garment.
Tips to Buying Great Stuff on Wish
Scrolling through the app and seeing cute clothes for only a few bucks, it's hard to resist buying everything. Especially when your PayPal account is already linked to the app. You can make a purchase by sliding a bar below the product you want. But keep a few points in mind before you start going swipe-crazy:
- The clothes are in Asian sizing, which often doesn't translate to U.S. or UK sizes.
- Shipping is slow (2 weeks+) and arrival estimates are sometimes inaccurate.
- There is very little product description and many people report that the pictures are inaccurate.
Read the Product Reviews!
Don't rely on the vendor's photo and descriptions. The only way to know if it is worth it to spend $4 on a shirt that will cost $1 to ship is to read the customer reviews. Many reviews are detailed and useful. You'll usually get enough information here to decide whether to buy or not.
There's an option for reviewers to post photos of the items they receive. These give you a lot more insight into what the product will look like on a person, versus the model in the picture.
Use Clothing Size Charts
As for sizing, most clothes on the site are sized for Asian women, which means they will typically run one to two sizes smaller than the women's clothes in a store in the U.S. or Europe. Many of the items have sizing charts to help in size selection. But, again, the best information is from the reviews left by consumers who have already received the product. The helpful ones mention they size they normally buy at a store in the United States and whether the size they ordered ended up fitting them.
Don't Expect Fast Delivery
Expect shipping to take a couple weeks and don't be surprised if it takes longer than they say. While most items are on time, the Wish app does not seem to place much emphasis on delivering on schedule. Remember, this is not Amazon Prime.
What to Buy from Wish
Tanks, Loose Fitting Tops
Bras, Tight Tops
"Leather", Tennis Shoes
Bags and Wallets
Snaps, Cosmetic Bags
Wish vs. Geek App
Geek is a electronics bargain shopping app that is keeping pace with Wish. Like Wish, Geek's merchandise is primarily shipped from China. Geek does have some clothing items similar to what Wish carries, but most of their merchandise is small electronics and toys.
The same cautions apply to Geek: Don't expect high-quality or fast shipping. But with the right research (and usually a bit of trial and error), Geek can be a great bargain for the right items.
Wish Shopper's Tip:
Read the product reviews from other buyers!
