When you've been in job-hunting mode for so long, you're tempted to take any offer you can get. And while that will solve your problem of being unemployed, it can lead to worse issues. You take that offer and suddenly you're overworked and underpaid and your mental health is a complete mess. You are worth so much more than that, so stand up for yourself and demand that your employer compensates you fairly.
TikTok user @moneylion shared everything you should negotiate when you are first offered a job. It goes beyond salary, so pay attention and take notes.
She explains that while getting paid your worth is important, there are other factors that will lead to you being happy at your new job. You need to be able to strike a healthy work-life balance.
To do that negotiate PTO, flexible work hours, relocation stipends, signing bonuses and your start date along with your salary.
"A great reminder of all the things you should keep in mind when evaluating your compensation," TikTok user @libbybonthelabel wrote in the comments section.
When negotiating, you may feel the need to hold back out of fear that your new employer will rescind the offer. Keep in mind they hired you for a reason. You have the skills they need to make their team function. Remind them that if they want you, they need to compensate you fairly. And if they do rescind the offer, they were never a good workplace, and you would have dodged a bullet.
