Hello, I am Christian and I love to read the bible. I want to be able to share the word of God through writing and hopefully, inspire others

How to handle money?
How to handle money?

Money is not evil, it is a blessing given by God. God gave us wealth for a purpose, for the purpose of doing good works and sharing the blessings that he has given us to our less fortunate brothers and sisters.

Let's see what the Bible tells us;

" And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. "

2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV

So if you are blessed with too much money, what should you do?
Let's Ask the Bible!

1. Thank God

Why should we thank God?

Let's see what the Bible tells us

" But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today. "

Deuteronomy 8:18 NIV

As the Bible told us, God is the one that gave us the ability to produce wealth. All the blessings we received, it is all given by God.

2. Honor God Through Your Wealth

How Can we Honor God Through our Wealth?

According to the Bible;

" Honour the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruit of all your crops; "

Proverbs 3:9 NIV

In short, we should give offerings to God. Through offerings, we express our gratitude to God for all the wonderful things he has given us.

And how much should we give? The Bible tells us that;

" Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. "

2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

It does not matter how much as long as you give cheerfully, God will be happy.

Another way to honor God through your wealth is sharing your wealth to those in need.

"This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. "

2 Corinthians 9:12-13 NIV

Through our act of generosity, it will give way to the people you help to praise God and give thanks to him and possibly brought them closer to God.

3. Give and Share

Why Should we Give and Share our Blessings?

" A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor. "

Proverbs 22:9 NIV

Because the Bible tells us that a generous man will be blessed.

and what else does the Bible tells us?

" ...freely you have received, freely give."

Matthew 10:8 NIV

Because God gave us blessings for free and he does not ask anything in return.

and also, a rich man should give because;

" You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us, your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. "

2 Corinthians 9:11 NIV

God made a person rich so that he can be generous on every occasion. God gave us blessings so we could share them with others.

and how should we give to others?

"And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners', expecting to be repaid in full. "

Luke 6:34 NIV

Lord Jesus tells us that we should not expect anything in return.

and also, we should give cheerfully and not reluctantly or under compulsion

" Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. "

2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

4. Be Content With What You Have

" Keep yourselves from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you! "

Hebrews 13:5 NIV

Some people were given too much money to spend for their needs and still have many left after they have bought what they need. So they spend their excess money to buy things that they do not really need but they are never satisfied. And then they keep wanting more and was never truly happy. It is because of their love for money and material things. This love temporarily makes them happy.

But let us look at the beggars in the street. They have no money but they can still live, they do not work but someone else provides for them through charity, they still have food that they can eat and clothes to wear even without money. God never leave them. God never forsake them.

but How can we be Content and Stop Loving Money and Material Things?

Good Question! Let's Ask the Bible!

" Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. "

Psalms 37:4 NIV

In short, love God instead. Very simple right? But How can loving God makes us Happy?

When you love someone, you will do anything for them to make them happy right? And you are happy if you are with them. So if loving someone could bring you great happiness, How much more if you start to love God?

and Why should we be Content with what we have?

" But godliness with contentment is a great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. "

1 Timothy 6:6-7 NIV

We can't even take our money and the material things we love to heaven.

5. Be Diligent, Work Hard

Yes, we should be diligent and work. But keep in mind that we are not working because of our love for money but we are working for money not just for ourselves but also we can use it for God, to be used for works that will make him happy. After all, we can't give to others what we don't have, and also God never taught us to be lazy.

"Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. "

Proverbs 10:14 NIV

God even taught us How to be rich and How to earn money, and How to avoid poverty.

" All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. "

Proverbs 14:23 NIV

6. Be Wise in Handling Wealth

God does not want us to waste the blessings he has given us.

What does the Bible tell us?

" In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has. "

Proverbs 21:20 NIV

So whose example are you gonna follow? will you follow the wise man who saves and store the blessings and manages it properly or will you be like the foolish man who does not care of the blessings that are given to him on worthless things without thinking?

How to be wise in handling wealth?

According to the Bible;

" The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. "

Proverbs 21:5 NIV

We should Plan how to spend our money. Every time we want to spend money on something, we should think about it first before we spend our money. Planning and managing our resources is making sure that we do not waste the blessings that God gave us.
