How to Pay Your Meralco Bill Using the Globe GCash App in Few Easy Steps

In this day and age, things are made easy by technology and a huge part of our daily transactions happens virtually. GCash is one of the country's leading mobile money services for purchases, bill payments, remittances. Because it is under Globe, a telecommunications company, you can also buy a load for Globe, TM, or even other networks.

I am one of GCash's avid users and one of the services I always use is for paying our electric and internet bills. It's easy, hassle-free and has no additional cost.

Meralco is the biggest electric company in the Philippines, servicing a total of 22 cities and 89 municipalities. Paying their Meralco bills have been a part of the monthly routine of most Filipinos. And sometimes, it can be such a hassle. That is why in this article, I will show you how easy it is to pay for your Meralco bill using your GCash App.

If you are interested to try this payment option but still don't have a GCash account you can use my link and click here. You can then download the GCash app and proceed to pay your bills and get the most out of their services.

Easy Steps in Paying Your Meralco Bill Using the GCash App

Step 1

Open your GCash App and enter your 4-digit MPIN.

Step 2

Make sure that you have enough balance in your account for the bills you are planning to pay. Then proceed to click the "Pay Bills" icon.

Step 3

Look for the "Electric Utilities" icon and then click.

Step 4

This will lead you to a list of electric utility companies in the Philippines. Just scroll down until you find Meralco. You can also click the heart beside it to easily find it next time you pay your Meralco bill.

Step 5

After you click "Meralco", you will then be lea=d to the page where you will fill out your billing information. No worries, you will only need two things—your Meralco Reference Number and the total amount of your payment. You can easily find the 26-digit Reference Number and the Total Amount Due at the bottom part of your billing statement. See the picture below.

Step 6

Make sure you enter the correct billing information and don't forget to also enter your email address to receive an official receipt straight to your email right after your payment. After you are sure you've got all your information correct, hit Next.

And you're done! You will automatically receive a notification on your app. This officially acknowledges your payment to Meralco.

Text Message Confirmation and Email Receipt

You will then receive these messages a few seconds after you confirm your payment. You can use this and the email payment receipt as your official proof of payment.

Questions & Answers

  • I tried paying my Meralco bill. But it continually says to double check my MRN. I checked it so many times correctly but the app still doesn't accept it. What is the problem?

If it says to double check your MRN then it's either you've just put in your MRN wrong or your MRN doesn't work anymore (GCash states that MRN would be invalid once you've already received your disconnection notice. In this case, you would have to pay your bills at your nearest Meralco Branch). Have you tried scanning the QR Code instead? If it still doesn't work, you can contact GCash Care on Messenger to assist you thoroughly.

  • The due date for my electric bill is tomorrow, and I paid today When it will be posted to their system that I already paid?

In my experience, it usually takes a few minutes/hours after payment. But the system says it may take about 24 hours before it will be posted. You don't have to worry though because once you've received your email/text message receipt, it means they've already received your payment, and it's already being processed.

  • How much is the convenience fee of using the GCash app?

There is no convenience fee. Once you've paid through the app, you would see on your online receipt that the fee is waived.

  • How do you pay Meralco with previous balance? Mine keeps saying invalid MRN and I'm using the scan QR code, it's not working.

If your QR scanner isn't working, you can try to manually input your MRN/Meralco Reference Number and other billing details. You can find the instruction in this article. If it still does not work, you can try to contact GCash Care for assistance to figure out if the problem is with the app or with your Meralco account.

Hi. It may be because your MRN is not valid anymore. It happens when you've already received a disconnection notice, in this case, you may need to find other payment methods outside of GCash. But if don't have a notice yet, you can contact GCash Care on Messenger to know the exact reason for the error. Hope this helps. Thank you.

Hi. You will automatically receive a text message and an email that works as a receipt (make sure to put your email on your billing information before finalizing the payment.) It usually takes a few minutes for the payment to reflect on your Meralco balance but it also says that it can also take about 24 hours. The receipt serves as your proof that the payment was already received and processed and the payment will soon be posted. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Hi, bars. As far as I know, there are no fees when paying for any bills on the app. (I'm just not sure about overdue payments whatsover of bills aside from electricity and internet because I only use GCash for Meralco and PLDT and there are no fees for these two.
