What Is GCash?

GCash is popular in the Philippines and many Filipinos are already familiar with it. If you are already a user, you may proceed already to the next section (Why pay bills with GCash?).

However, if you are still exploring what GCash is, below is how it defines itself on its official website:

GCash is a BSP-regulated mobile money service that lets you buy load, purchase items, send and receive money, pay bills, and more using Globe, TM, or any other network. It’s like having your wallet inside your phone giving you hassle-free and safer ways to go cashless. That’s GCash!

Why Pay Bills With GCash?

Being a popular online money portal, GCash already has developed a mobile app that is readily available in the Playstore. Paying bills with GCash can be done by simply pressing a few buttons. Additionally, the company has partnered with various merchants that accept their bill payments straight from the mobile app.

In fact, with the recent updates, payment can now also be done by merely scanning the bar code found on the billing statement of certain merchants.

Paying bills with GCash, eliminates the need to physically go to a payment center and wait for long hours just to pay different bills. For instance, you don’t need to wait in line just to pay for the following:

  • Meralco (an electric utility)
  • Maynilad (water utility)
  • Your cable TV monthly bill
  • BPI credit card monthly statement

Using the GCash mobile app's Pay Bills feature, the above bills can be paid anytime and anywhere.

How Many Bills Can Be Paid in GCash?

It actually depends on how much money the GCash account has. As long as the GCash balance can accommodate it, then you can pay to as many Billers as you can.

As can be seen on the screenshot, it is possible to pay at least 5,000 to three unique Billers with the balance shown above.

Step By Step Process To Pay Bills Using Gcash

Below is an example to better visualize how to use GCash to pay bills. In this example, the BPI credit card statement (monthly bill) will be paid using the GCash Pay Bills feature

1. Open the GCash App

2. Select the Pay Bills button

3. Choose the Appropriate Biller Category

For this example, we would choose Credit Cards. However, please also note that the GCash app can also sent payment for each utility or merchant seen on the screenshot

4. Choose BPI From the List of Accredited Banks

Again, each listed bank also accepts payments via GCash

5. Supply the Necessary Information

Please ensure to input accurate information. Otherwise, the payment may not push through. Please also take note of the reminder that the convenience fee (service fee) is waived for this transaction.

6. Double Check the Information in the Confirmation Page Before Pressing Confirm

7. All Done!

Although payment details will be sent via SMS, you may also take a screenshot of the app’s payment details for reference.

Things to Remember When Paying Bills Using GCash

  • Be sure you have enough money on your GCash balance to pay for the intended bill. An error will be encountered for insufficient funds
  • Always input correct information. Be sure to input the account details as it appears or saved on the Biller’s database
  • Don’t pay bills when there is a system maintenance going on either GCash or Biller’s side
  • Some merchants indicate the processing time to complete while others don't
  • Double-check if the payment has reflected after this period. This can be done via the Biller’s app/site, or through phone

Are Convenience Fee or Service Fee always waived?

Nope. In the example used on this post, it is waived. But please be advised that this depends on the Biller. For readers who don’t want to pay their bills if the service fee is not waived, be sure to take notice of it before confirming the payment.

What Information Will Be Required When Paying Bills Using GCash?

In the illustrated example, only three information are needed for the payment BPI credit card statement to push through: Account No or Credit Card Number; Account Name; and Amount

However, please be advised that this information may change depending on the Biller. Please see below screenshots for required information of other banks:

Hassle Free!

That’s just about it. Paying bills through the GCash mobile app is extremely convenient and simple. With this option, you no longer need to physically go to payment centers.

Aside from bills payment, there are also a bunch of things GCash can do. Drop a question on the comment below or do some exploring for GCash other features. One such feature is to verify a PayPal account using the GCash Mastercard

Questions & Answers

  • Can I pay 2 or more electric bills using my only gcash account?

I think it is possible since it doesn't require certain info when paying. Based on things/comments that I read from other channels, some people are actually considering that as a payment center business. However, it would be nice to be reminded that there are limits regarding paying bills
