I self-published my book at the end of 2016. I haven't had lots of sales, but I have a lot of publishers contacting me saying it qualifies for traditional publishing and saying they want to promote it. I don't understand why. I don't have a large following on social media, so I am only guessing they want me to purchase some kind of promotion services. Why other than my purchasing promotional service would publishers want to promote my book? Does something happen after a certain amount of time?
While it might feel good to be contacted about your book qualifying for traditional publishing, some of these contacts may be scams that, as you've noted, want you to purchase some promotion services. I would say not to fall for it and thoroughly investigate these offers, with the help of an attorney, before buying in.
