Which of My Articles Get Read More Than Others

Margaret Minnicks has been an online writer for many years. She writes articles that are interesting to her readers.

Which of my HubPages articles have been the most successful?

Which of my HubPages articles have been the most successful?

Over the last two decades, I have created articles on several writing sites. Over the years, I have written over 5,000 articles. I am amazed that some of my articles get read so much more often than others. Some of my articles have had thousands of readers and other articles have had less than a hundred readers. I don't have all the answers, but I have discovered some reasons that might be helpful to others.

It Depends on the Site

It really depends on the site you are writing for. Every site has its own rules. Articles that adhere to the rules get pushed through by the site. Writers who make up their own rules don't get the readers they would like to get. So, rule number one is to stick to the rules and don't go out on a limb and do whatever you want.

I have written for at least three sites at one time. Every time, I have to remember certain rules. For example, some sites use the APA writing style. That means that all major words must be capitalized in titles and headers. Another site might not have that requirement.

Since this article was created using HubPages, I will focus only on what I have discovered about this particular writing site. The numbers change every day. At the time of this writing, my articles have been read 3,043,521 times.

In the table above, you can see that there is a 100,000 difference between the most read article and the second most-read article. Even though they were written years apart, they are still at the top of my list of articles.

The bell peppers article gets between 700 and 1,200 readers on some days. One would think that over the years, most people would have already read the article or are not interested in reading it.

I can understand why the second-highest article has been read so many times. It is because if people google any one of the four Baldwin brothers, the article will show up in their search.

You can see in the table above that successful articles about reality shows are not about time-sensitive, news-like topics. The ones that receive a significant number of page views are the ones that answer a question that is relevant even when the show is not on the air.

The above articles were written for a special group of people. However, the group is large—over 34.2 million Americans have been diagnosed with the disease. That's more than 1 in every 10 adults. Also, over 88 million American adults have prediabetes. That's approximately one in every three adults. Diabetics can get good information from these articles. I should write more articles in that category.

My evergreen articles get traffic whenever a new season of a popular television show airs. Even though the article is not new, people click on it and read it anyway.

Seasonal Articles

People click on some articles I wrote years ago. They read about Christmas songs, the Lenten season, the Advent season, etc. That information doesn't change over time. Therefore, the articles have gotten additional readers over the years.

My Least-Read Articles

I have discovered that writing about the deaths of celebrities and prominent people is not worth it for me. I have written about the deaths of Whitney Houston, her daughter Bobbie Christine Brown, Billy Graham, Aretha Franklin, Alex Trebek, and others. All of those articles have had fewer than 100 readers.

I think it was because so many others were writing the same things much quicker. News outlets and publications already have a file on prominent people. When they die, the publication needs only a limited amount of information to be inserted in the articles before they are published. By the time my article about the death is published, most people already know about it.

Happy Writing!

I love writing, and I write only about what I am interested in. It becomes a chore to write about something I am not passionate about, even if it might attract more readers. I am very satisfied with my writing career, and I'll keep writing as long as I have some interesting to write about. (i.e., forever).

This is a very interesting bit of research. I have no where near that number of articles written but your analysis of the different topics is very useful for anyone thinking of writing in a particular topic.

Margaret Minnicks (author) from Richmond, VA on March 04, 2021:

gyanendra mocktan and Alyssa, thanks so much for reading my article. I monitor my dashboard several times a day to see which articles are being read. I have discovered which categories my readers gravitate to and which ones they don't.

Hopefully, my article will help both of you succeed in writing and publishing your articles.

Alyssa from Ohio on March 04, 2021:

A very informative analysis! I like how you broke it all down into categories and took a look at what was performing well vs not so well. It's always a good idea to reflect.

gyanendra mocktan from Kathmandu,Nepal on March 03, 2021:
