What Is a Thirty-One Consultant?

A consultant is like a representative for Thirty-One products. She can help you create custom bags, lunch boxes, totes, cases, and much more. All shoppers on the website must have a consultant to make purchases.

Being a Thirty-One consultant is very rewarding. It allows you to be the boss of your own career and achieve the financial goals you choose to put into action.

If you're interested in becoming a consultant, don't worry if you have no sales experience. Anyone can learn how to sell these products. Your leader will show you everything you need to get started!

Becoming a Consultant

There are two ways to sign up.

  • First, if you already have a consultant you can tell her you would like to join as a consultant yourself.
  • If you do not have a consultant, you can sign up online at ThirtyOneGifts.com. Go to the Join Thirty-One tab at the top. You will then enter your info and a consultant will contact you immediately.

Selling Thirty-One Products

Selling Thirty-One Gifts is fun and very rewarding. There are several ways to do it, and depending upon your goals and commitment, it can become a lucrative opportunity.

  • Individual Orders: One way to is to collect individual orders. These are orders you collect from friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, and anyone else you show the book to or that contacts you wanting to sell.
  • Home Parties: This is the fastest way to make money. You can host your own party and invite your friends and family, or you can have a friend host one for you. Thirty-One offers great incentives for hostess including free merchandise, half-price items, and items that exclusive to hosts only.
  • Catalog Parties: This is a great way to bring in large orders as well. With a catalog party you simply put together a packet with catalogs, flyers, and order forms and give it to your hostess. She then takes it to all her friends, family members, co-workers, and neighbors and collects orders and then returns the packet, order forms, and money to you by a particular time, usually within 1-2 weeks. You then take the orders and submit them. She gets all the hostess incentives while you make your earnings from the orders. Best of all, you have very little time invested. These are the perfect opportunity for your customers who say, "I don't have time for a party."
  • Online Sales: You can collect sales when customers shop the website. You can pass out your link on the website to friends and family who do not live nearby. This is another great reason for networking and using social media. You can also set up online parties using your website. This is a great way to party with friends who are not local.

Recruiting

Thirty-One Consultants do not have to recruit other consultants. However, if you decide to take the path to leadership and start your own unit, then you can earn more. That path does involve recruiting. There are leadership incentives for those who decide to take the next step in their consulting business.

Earning Potential

There are two ways to earn money as a Thirty-One Consultant: sales and leadership. Sales is obviously required in order to be a consultant, but leadership is optional for those who are interested in earning even more while mentoring others.

  • Sales: You earn 25% of your entire sales. Not bad, considering the average party is around $650. You figure a party lasts an hour and a half, maybe two hours at the most and that's a quick $162.
  • Leadership: With Leadership you can earn an extra bonus on your own sales and 2-9% own your downline. In addition, there are bonuses you can earn when you achieve new levels of leadership. For example, achieving Director, which consists of 4+ in your downline is a $1,000 bonus. Now really, that is a great incentive.

Getting Paid

Consultants are paid once a month. When a consultant places the order, she sends the entire amount. At the end of the month, Thirty-One tallies earnings and either sends a check or deposits directly into the consultant's account. The great thing about this is that you can see your earnings in one lump sum instead of a few dollars here and there that you may not recognize.

Costs

Becoming a Thirty-One consultant is much cheaper than it is with most direct sales companies. The kit is only $99 and it includes everything you need to get started, including your website, business tools, catalogs, and several bags to display or use for your own purpose. You will have everything you need to get started immediately.

I am interested but, not ready just yet. I have done Tupperware, Mary Kay, and premier design over the years and always did them with a full time job and raising a child. We have retired and I have spare time. I would love to fill it and make extra money. I do however have to be sure before deciding.

Marcia Curts - 863-412-7591 on August 01, 2019:

I purchased the Cindy Tote (I think that was the name) - it’s grey quilted with black handles. The black vinyl on the handles as well as around the top is flaking off. Is this normal or is my tote defective? I love this tote & really haven’t used it that often. Please respond to my comment. Thank you.

Confused. We buy a $99 or $167 start up package, then pay $12.95 a month plus $2.00 for email campaigns. But if you have $200 in sales o Ed 3 months, do you still pay the $12.95?

Heather on February 20, 2019:

Brenda, we haven't reached the UK yet, but I know we're hoping to expand internationally soon!

Amanda Me on June 02, 2017:

Cathy and Lin- You do have to have $200 in sales every 3 months to stay active. But, all you have to do to reactivate is place a $200+ order! :)

Susan- we call call this a "kit napper!" lol! But, yes, if that's what you choose to do, there is no "small print." You buy the kit, its yours to keep!

Linda- unfortunately no products are allowed to be sold in-store. There are policies set into place on where you can sell and where you can't. :)

Also, I seen the story said consultants get paid once a month. We get paid twice a month, on the 10th and 25th. :)

If I can be of any more help, let me know! Thanks!

Ashley on April 30, 2017:

Today you can join for only $50.

Linda on April 25, 2017:

I have a small brick and mortar resale shop selling mostly vintage jewelry and some collectibles, etc. Would I be able to offer your products by placing a display in my shop of a few items you sell and then hand out catalogs to folks coming in? They could actually see many of the things in person and them place their orders online. Would I also be able to do outright sales to customers in the shop as well?

susan on April 04, 2017:

What if i buy the kit and never sell anything ? Is there some hidden cost ?

Stephanie (author) from DeFuniak Springs on March 18, 2017:

No there are no minimums. You simply earn for what you sell.

Cathy on March 18, 2017:

I would like to know if you have a minimum you have to sell each month ???

Kimberly on March 18, 2017:

Lin I'd love to talk to you! I love thirty-one gifts and can get you started by answering some questions

Lin on March 14, 2017:

Is there a monthly quota you ha e to reach to stay active each month? I have heard you have to sell minimum 200 bucks over 3 months. Not sure if this is true but I really want to become a consultant but if there is a quota then I'm hesitant.

Anonymous on February 13, 2017:

Are there any sign up specials? It seems I may have just missed one for $31. I am looking to set up a site where proceeds go to charity so I want start up costs to be as low as possible. Any help?Any possible donations from the group to hand out as prizes or sell for more donations (like "older" merchandise"). Thanks

Amanda Donnelly on February 09, 2017:

Beth, I am a Director for Thirty-One. I can say that "not knowing a lot of people" is a common fear, along with "I don't know enough people who will buy from me". But! That is the beauty of growing your customer base and your business. You get referrals, you do local fundraisers, vendor events, etc. So, you just multiply your customers just by branching out from those people you do know. :) As for the $31 kit questions-- it ends TOMORROW on the 10th! You get 3 products, $87 value, PLUS business supplies to make you party ready. :) You can go to thirtyonegifts.com and search for a consultant near you, or anyone that you may know. Feel free to reach out to me or any of the below ladies with any other questions!

@anonymous: The new purse is included with the new fall kit! The only fee is for your monthly upkeep of your website which you can choose to cancel, and you will never be charged if you don't sell, or quit any time. The only amount you pay is for your kit!

anonymous on September 07, 2013:

@anonymous: my total came out to like $117 with shipping and tax

anonymous on September 06, 2013:

Isn't there a monthly fee for your website also?

Stephanie (author) from DeFuniak Springs on August 31, 2013:

@anonymous: Yes.. just put them in as a 'retail purchase'. If you have $100 in orders, and two friends who order $50 each, you can actually put them in as a 'party' and get the earnings PLUS get the Hostess credits. It only takes a $200 for a 'qualified' party. Win-win!

anonymous on August 31, 2013:

Do my own purchases count toward the $200.00 minimum?

anonymous on August 26, 2013:

@anonymous: You could also host a debut party for friends and family to show them your new business. When you do this you will get the hostess rewards and can use the credit to purchase the purse plus some! (Especially with the hostess incentive in September!). I am a Thirty One consultant and LOVE it! You won't regret it!!!

anonymous on August 21, 2013:

Can you but enrollment kit and add-on kit together? If so how long do you have to get it together?

Stephanie (author) from DeFuniak Springs on August 18, 2013:

@anonymous: Sorry you missed out on the purse. Sounds like they just added a new kit. If you wanted the purse, buy the purse- if that it the only reason you were signing up. Meanwhile, there are NO other fees. You just need to order $200 in a 3 month period. If not, you just go inactive and can reactivate buy placing a $200 order any time in the next year.

anonymous on August 17, 2013:

I just went to start the sign up process and was disappointed to see that the sign up bonus of the new purse is no longer available :( Why should I do it now? That was a big incentive for me! Also is there any other type of monthly fee or initial fee that I am charged to be a consultant if I do ever choose to sign up? Any fee that I will be charged if I don't get enough sales or quit within a certain period of time?

sarahkrug on August 04, 2013:

@anonymous: Hi Wanda, The incentive is called Go Girl Go! For new Consultants who join between July 1-Aug 14, you will receive a brand new Suite Success Skirt Purse with your enrollment kit - valued at $60! You'll be able to carry it before it's even available to purchase! To answer your other question about taxes: Consultants need to file a 1099 that you will get from Thirty-One in January.

sarahkrug on August 04, 2013:

@anonymous: Hi Debra, there is a problem with the application process if you're using either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. You will need to use Mozilla Firefox instead. Just install it for free on your computer and you're ready to go! Good luck!

I have went out and back in several times and it is still not working for me. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Please help

anonymous on July 22, 2013:

@KellysTotes: What is the incentive? How does filing taxes work?

anonymous on July 13, 2013:

@anonymous: If you want to build your sales, it would be important to get out there and meet people. I know sometimes that's difficult, but sometimes just carrying your bags and totes around get people asking about them. I love that people just ask about them frequently.

Stephanie (author) from DeFuniak Springs on July 12, 2013:

@anonymous: You can just have sales through your online site. You can also do online parties. They have a tool that creates a specific site so anyone for that particular party can go in and order and the host gets credit. It's great for facebook and online social media.

anonymous on July 11, 2013:

I don't know anyone nearby to throw parties. Is that a requirement or can I just make sales through my online site?

KellysTotes on July 03, 2013:

Stephanie (author) from DeFuniak Springs on July 01, 2013:

I joined 31 a year ago and I only planned on doing it for 90 days, in order to earn all of the startswell levels just for new consultants. Well, a year later, I am still with 31 and have 3 recruits! It is so easy and rewarding! And the fact that you only have to submit $200 every 3 months to stay active makes it easily stress-free! If you are thinking of signing up, just do it! You won't be sorry. Also, the Celebrate and Connect meetings every other month are not only fun and helpful, we also get a free amenity just for going to the meeting!

anonymous on June 09, 2013:

I recently became a consultant and it is true when the big pink box arrives it is so exciting. The start up kit is great and I am using many of the products on a daily basis as well as for demonstartion/example at home parties. I work a full time job and started my Thirty One business as a way to earn extra money and have some girl time. I really hope to continue to grow my Thirty One business and be successful in it. If you love the products and want to share that with friends/family/co-workers I say go for it :)

I would be happy to chat if you have further questions for me about being new in the business I was a customer for a few years before I became a consultant. I also love the fact that in this business if your hostess does not want to host the party in her home there is a catalog or online party option which is so great. Theresahilinski@gmail.com.

anonymous on April 20, 2013:

@anonymous: yes! You can purchase the summer add on kit by April 30.

anonymous on April 19, 2013:

anonymous on February 17, 2013:

@anonymous: I'm sorry i forgot to delete my name and website from my post-it automatically puts it in whatever I post to. My apologies.

anonymous on February 17, 2013:

@anonymous: Ann Callaham- That is perfectly okay. I call it "kit Napping" but its your choice to keep the kit for yourself with no penalties and not share and sell with others. Most consultants get started with their business by becoming a kit napper first! I am included in this, but I love 31 so much that I couldn't help but share it with others, and since, it has been such a huge blessing in me and my families life. They are such great products. Hope this helps answer your question.
