Can Reels Help Grow Your Instagram Following?
If you're looking to grow your brand or personal presence on Instagram, producing reels is a great way to do so. Reels are the most trendy feature of Instagram right now and a powerful tool to build your account. Even if you've never created a reel before, you're not a techy person, and you don't have a lot of time on your hands, you can still create successful reels.
To make the process easier you can experiment with the three simple and free tools discussed in this article to produce content either from scratch or using existing images and videos.
3 Free Tools You Can Use to Create Reels for Instagram
1. Create Reels on the Instagram App
This is thought to be the preferred method by the mythical "algorithm." Here's how to create a reel directly on the Instagram app:
- Open the app
- Click on the "+" button (or your profile picture) to create and choose "Reel"
- Start filming
- Save as draft or post directly
For step 4, you'll have all the options you need to edit your reel: delete, trim, add text, add music, use filters, create trendy transitions, etc. Remember—if you save your reel as a draft, it will also save to your camera roll. This helps you avoid losing your footage in case anything happens to your drafts within the app.
2. Create Reels on TikTok
To create a reel with TikTok, you'll simply need to create a video on the platform. Here's how:
- Open the TikTok app
- Press the "+" button
- Film a video or use their templates for photos
- Save the video to your device
The video will save to your camera roll and include the music. You can then upload it from your camera roll straight onto Instagram. Please be aware that it will show the Tik Tok logo and your username.
There is some speculation that the Instagram algorithm doesn't favor the reels with the TikTok logo. However, remember that done is better than perfect. If using TikTok helps you create more reels, stick with it! The more you produce, the better you'll do.
It all started with TikTok, and the app remains the trendsetter for most viral reels. The Tiktok app is great for finding trendy sounds, creating cool transitions, and using templates to make videos out of photos. I use the template feature all the time for my photos. It takes me about 10 minutes to create a TikTok, save it to my phone, and share it on Instagram. They usually perform quite well.
3. Create Reels With InShot
If you want to take it a step further, InShot is a very good tool to edit photos and/or videos together for reels. It's an app you can download from the Apple App Store or Google Play and use for free. There is a premium version available, and it's definitely very useful if you do decide to upgrade, but you can certainly use it to create reels without upgrading.
Download the app from your app store, and with the free version alone, you can create wonderful Instagram reels. Here's how:
- Open the app
- Select "Video"
- Select "New"
- Add photos or footage from your camera roll
- Edit within the app
- Save to your camera roll
- Upload to Instagram and post as a reel
When using InShot's free version with the logo, you can remove the logo for each download by clicking the "X" button next to the logo and choosing "Remove this once."
