Opening a New Age Shop of Your Own?

So you've decided to open your very own metaphysical New Age store. Perhaps you're opening one up locally in a storefront. Or maybe you've decided to do it all on the internet on Etsy or on your very own website. Whatever way you choose to run your shop, one thing is for sure - you must choose a unique name for your store that will grab the attention of passersby and turn them into paying customers!

Luckily, choosing a name for your New Age shop should not only be easy but it should be a lot of fun, too. You only need to look at the merchandise you're selling to get inspired. But if that doesn't help, look to nature, the universe, and other things of beauty that inspired you to open your store in the first place! In this article, I will help you get inspired and perhaps even choose your name for your metaphysical store.

Things to Inspire You to Choose the Right Name

While most of us believe the name doesn't make the person, we know that names do hold power. So will the name of a metaphysical shop possess a certain power to draw people into it, if given the right name. It must be unique, enchanting, and command attention of those who see it. But what if you're having a hard time coming up with a name for your shop? Not a problem at all, you just need a little inspiration...and let's face it. Inspiration is literally everywhere!

1. Get Inspired by All Things New Age

First and foremost, get inspired by all things New Age. What inspired you to open your store in the first place? Most likely your spirituality...so use your connection with Spirit / God / Universe to get inspired to name your shop! For instance, do you have a thing for crystals? Meditation? Reiki? Yoga? Are you vegan? Are you Buddhist or Hindu? Think about words that resonate with you deeply and get inspired to include them in a name for your metaphysical shop. If it resonates with you, it most likely will resonate with others...as we are all one.

2. Get Inspired by Nature

The easiest way to choose a name for your New Age shop is to go outside and get inspired by all the beauty around you. A blue jay flies by...a butterfly's wing brushes through your hair...the sun shines down and kisses your forehead. All of nature is calling out to you, you just simply need to stop and listen. Pay attention to the messages being sent to you. Use these messages as inspiration...and if you're really brave, name your metaphysical store after the first message you receive from nature! For example, "The Crow's Caw."

3. Get Inspired by the Universe

If you are drawn to space and the stars, perhaps it would be a great idea to acquire your name from the Universe. Not only can you use the Sun, Moon, and star constellations as a part of your New Age shop's name, but you can also use the planets, galaxies, nebulas, etc. Do you have a favorite star or planet? Use the name of that star or planet as inspiration to name your shop. The Universe is calling to you, just as Spirit and Mother Earth do.

Still Can't Figure Out a Name?

If you've tried to be inspired by all of these things and are still having a hard time deciding, there are a couple more things you can do. Keeping in mind that inspiration can come from almost anywhere, open your mind and heartspace and try the following:

  • Consult your tarot deck. The first card you draw might give you the name to your shop.
  • Ask your best friend. Sometimes friends and family members have the best ideas and know you better than you know yourself.
  • Flip open your favorite book and randomly land on a page—you might find a metaphysical name you've been waiting for!
  • Name your store after your favorite pet, best friend, first love, the street you grew up on, your favorite vacation spot, your favorite author, musician, artist, etc.
  • Name your store after yourself: for example, Kitty's Crystals, or Michelle's Metaphysical Shop.
  • Ask for the name of your new age shop to come to you in a dream.
  • Name your store after your favorite god or goddess.

Inspiration can strike anywhere at any time. So the best thing for you to do is to be patient and let the right name for your metaphysical store come to you. Let it flow down the river of Spirit and to your feet. If you try to force it, it usually won't feel right anyway!

Spreading the Word

Once you've found your metaphysical store's name, you might want to think about spreading the word early. Even if you don't have a storefront or online store opened yet, you can start advertising right away. To gain interest and potential customers before the opening of your shop is never a bad thing!

Here are some easy ways to spread the word of your soon-to-be-open metaphysical store:

  • Use social media. Post about your opening shop on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google +, Youtube, Instagram, etc.
  • Call up your New Age friends and let them know, and ask them to tell their New Age friends (word of mouth is always an easy and effective way to advertise your new shop's name to the public)
  • Once you have an opening date for your shop, make up flyers, posters, and coupons and pass them out at drumming circles and pagan meet-ups. Ask local businesses if they would allow you to post your flyers on their corkboards.

The success of your New Age store starts with finding that one-in-a-million store name, but goes far beyond just a name. It is about the passion and dedication behind it. That fire to succeed comes only from the fire inside of you. Let the Universe flow through you and into everything you do for your new metaphysical store. Touch others through your work, and you will be blessed in return.

Start With a Name, End With a Legacy

Hello! I needed a name for a New Age shop for a novel I'm writing. After looking through the suggestions, I came up with Orion's Owl and Dragonflies and Dreamcatchers. Now I just have to decide which one. :D

      Thanks again!

Hello kitty! You certainly offered some lovely suggestions of shop names as well as suggestions on how to inspire yourself to come up with new ones. (I like Cosmic Peace) I think that it's important to have a name that is not only appropriate and interesting, but one that is memorable as well. I occasionally visit a store that cleverly uses 3 B's in the title - something like Buddha, Beads, and I can never remember the last one. Anyway, I bet you had fun coming up with that list of names. Then once you have a list of potential metaphysical names, check to see which ones are available as domain names. That's a good way to help filter out those that might be in use and could cause confusion for customers. Then look into claiming that perfect domain before someone else does!

I definitely like using tools like those you've mentioned to home in on some name candidates. And the other tool to have is a notebook to write 'em down so you don't forget. :)

      Voted useful, interesting and sharing!
