Baking Up the Perfect Name

If choosing a name for your bakery was as easy as baking a cake, then you would be in business (literally)!

While delectable desserts and other baked goods are key for a successful bakery, it is nearly as important to pick a good name. The name is a way for customers to remember you, and if you choose well, you're on your way to developing a successful brand.

Bakery Name Brainstorming

  • Less is more: When it comes to bakery names, the shorter you keep it, the more likely your customers and passers-by will remember it for future business.

  • Keep it simple: Try to avoid names that are difficult for the average Joe to pronounce or spell. You want them to be able to remember you exist, and if your name is too confusing, it won't stick in their minds.

  • Use your food: Find inspiration in your signature treats and go from there, e.g. Sweetie Pies, The Sugar Cookie, or Smart Tarts.
  • Use your bakery equipment: Names like the Rolling Pin, Sugar Sifters, and the Cookie Sheet are especially retro-feeling and instantly theme your entire shop!
  • Use your name: You might get lucky and find a baked good that rhymes! If you've ever pictured your name in lights, this is your chance!

  • Use adjectives: This is especially necessary if you are using food in your business name. Adding an adjective in the name can make all the difference!

  • Use alliteration: This is where you use the same letter or sound in a few consecutive words and it’s very catchy: In the Crispy Crunchy Croissant, note the repetition of “cr” in all three words.
  • Use a theme: If your bakery will have a theme, try incorporating it into the name. (If you specialize in wedding cakes, Swedish baking, cupcakes, or unusual spices, choose a name to reflect this fact.)

All of the names listed are great but do you have any suggestions for me? My bakery will be very... random. The chairs and tables are all different, the tiles and wallpaper don't even have a specific theme. And all kinds of foods will be made; Smoothies and coffee, cakes and breads, ice cream scoops and slushies. Should you be ever so kind to help, I thank you.
